The Conversation Coach's Tip of the Day: Open-Ended Questions in Arguments
By Michele Stills | Apr 20, 2021
When you find yourself in a situation with someone at work, home, or anywhere and they're raising their voice. They're very excited and you can tell they're upset. Pause the conversation and ask them an open-ended question. Are we fighting? Are you upset with me? Did I do something to cause this? By pausing in the conversation and asking them to name their emotion. You're defusing the situation and so you can get to a point of co-creation and get back to a place of trust in the workplace. This way you can change your relationships, one conversation at a time.
